Dancing In Two
“What is it?”
“I just can’t tell how serious this is yet.”
There’s a pause. He knows why she feels this way. He still hasn’t been able to tell her. It’s not that there’s shame. It is simply part of him. But, he knows that there’s always mixed reactions to it.
“When are you going to tell me your plus?”
There it is. He gets up from the table. Walks up to the counter.
“2 americanos. One with sugar, no cream. One with a little sugar, and a little cream.”
A mechanical arm extends to hand him his two drinks. He looks directly as the server. The servers scans his eyes. He confirms, transferring .01 facebucks. He returns to the table.

“I’m not ready yet. Only a few friends know, and I’ve only told one previous girlfriend.”
“So somewhere there’s an ex that knows what you look like within Eternal.”
He winces. It’s true. But he knew her since childhood, so it’s different. At least, to him. He’s well aware that she doesn’t care about the history. Right now, she’s only concerned with the fact that there’s a past romance that knows something she doesn’t know.
“+GripsMcQueen”
She pulls out a clean slate of glass. Lifts it to her face. It turns to color as the operating system displays the 10 apps she has optimized under her Apple core subscription.
The free tier only allows 5 apps, but the “apps core plus” is a little pricey, due to the recent inflation. 1 facebuck a month more isn’t worth hosting 5 more apps. She’d rather go through the hassle of deleting and swapping.
She pulls up +GripsMcQueen. She pauses as his avatar renders. Watching the profile video, the audio is synced to an audio-chip placed within her ear canal. She tenderly takes his hand. A sigh of relief washes over him.
She understands.

I was fortunate enough to see Vampire Weekend do an acoustic pop-up show in Washington Square Park on Friday. Loving the new album. Just in time for May. Which also reminds me, I have to do this month’s playlist!
Having a definitive view on what you believe will be commoditized over time, allows you to focus on more interesting product experiences, that aren’t tied to getting over deep technical hurdles. Obviously, if you believe that no one will solve that technical hurdle, then it’s a pretty crazy moat. I might be off on this.
Commented on a tweet recently on how a new mobile banking startup could be a combination of walking through an AR portal, that puts you inside an MR bank. And then you are able to speak to a virtual teller. Maybe all it really needs is a video conferencing joint within a mobile app. But my idea is definitely more fun and future as hell.
